Managing a WordPress website efficiently requires powerful tools that simplify performance optimization and security measures. In collaboration with our partner, WordKeeper, we’ve launched a plugin that gives you access to powerful hosting functions – from one-click backups and clearing server cache to more advanced functions like managing PHP versions and bot crawler access. This plugin is active on all Sunny HQ-hosted sites.
This post explores two powerful features everyone can use regardless of technical expertise – clearing your website’s cache and performing a quick backup of your entire WordPress site. We’ll cover their functions, benefits, and how they contribute to an optimized and secure website experience.
Clearing Server Cache: Boost Your Site’s Speed and Performance
What Is server cache?
When a visitor accesses a website, various elements—such as images, scripts, and database queries—need to be processed and delivered. Instead of reloading everything from scratch, caching stores this information so that it can be quickly served to returning users. In short, server cache is a temporary storage layer that holds frequently accessed data to speed up retrieval times.
Benefits of One-Click Cache Clearing
- Instant content updates: Visitors will see the latest content changes without delay
- Optimized performance: Prevent cache overload from slowing down your site
- Fewer plugin dependencies: No need for multiple caching plugins
- Improved troubleshooting: Quickly resolve compatibility issues caused by outdated cache files
Armed with the ability to instantly clear the cache, you have more power to take control of your site’s performance.
How to clear your website’s cache
The WordKeeper plugin simplifies cache management by offering a one-click solution to clear the server cache directly from the WordPress dashboard. Compared to navigating through complex hosting settings or relying on third-party caching plugins, the WordKeeper plugin makes clearing your server cache a breeze.
To use this feature:
- Navigate to WordKeeper > General in your WordPress dashboard
- Locate the Caching block (top left)
- Click the Clear button to instantly clear cached data from the server
Quick Backup: Safeguard Your Website with Instant Recovery
A quick backup is an on-demand snapshot of your website’s files and database that allows for fast restoration in case of unexpected issues. Unlike automated daily backups, which run on a fixed schedule, quick backups provide an immediate safety net before making significant changes.
How to perform a quick backup
The plugin provides an intuitive way to generate a full-site backup with a single click – no technical expertise or external backup tools needed, everything is handled directly within WordPress.
To perform a quick backup:
- Navigate to WordKeeper > General in your WordPress dashboard
- Locate the Backup block (top middle)
- Click the Create Backup button. You will be prompted to name your backup (tip: use a naming convention that’s easy to follow, e.g. ‘04 March 2025 -1’ for the first backup made on 04 March 2025 in case you could be making multiple backups throughout the day).
To restore a quick backup:
- Navigate to WordKeeper > Backups in your WordPress dashboard
- All backups – those you’ve made as well as daily automated backups – are listed according to the date and time they were created
- Locate your backup, and click Restore to restore your backup
More About Website Cache
Other types of cache
In addition to server caching, there are several other types of cache that can impact website performance:
- Browser cache: Stores static resources like images, stylesheets, and scripts on a user’s device to reduce load times on return visits.
- Object cache: Saves database query results, allowing WordPress to retrieve data more quickly instead of processing the same requests repeatedly.
- Opcode cache: Stores precompiled PHP scripts in memory, reducing the need for repeated script compilation and improving backend performance.
- Content Delivery Network (CDN) cache: Distributes cached versions of a website across multiple data centers worldwide, enhancing load speed for global visitors.
Each of these caching methods plays a role in improving speed and reducing server load, but server caching remains one of the most critical for real-time performance optimization.

Why clearing the cache is important
While caching significantly enhances website speed and reduces server load, outdated or corrupted cache files can lead to issues such as:
- Stale content: Users may see outdated versions of your website even after making updates.
- Broken layouts: Changes to stylesheets, JavaScript, or themes might not reflect immediately.
- Performance Bottlenecks: An overloaded cache can slow down site performance instead of improving it.
- Conflict Resolution: Plugin or theme updates might cause conflicts if old cached files persist.
Clearing the server cache ensures that visitors always see the most up-to-date content and experience optimal site performance.
